I read this book while working on the implementation of the CHIPs Act in 2023. It was very accessible and gave me a strong understanding of the global semiconductor supply chain.
It's hard to believe I've been thinking about automated labor, post-work societies and universal basic income since 2016. This book was assigned in a political economy class my senior year. I'm not sure how much I agree with Williams and Srnicek's critiques about work and accelerationism but it's undeniable how well their argument's aged regarding AI, mass unemployment, and "bullshit jobs."
In Ibn Khaldun's scientific and logical arrangements in Muqaddimah, written history locates the origins of demography, the modern scientific method, the economic Laffer curve and the business cycle, urban development and the cyclical theory of civilizations.
Rachel O'Dwyer wrestles with the global history of tokens to understand the rise of different digital asset classes including crypto & NFTs and how DeFi continues to converge with cold hard cash.
An Othello comparison and doppleganger themes. My favorite modern Arab literature novel.
